Cartoonist Kris Dresen visits UW Stout Comics Program!

University of Wisconsin Stout students in the Entertainment Design program enjoyed a visit from internationally known cartoonist Kris Dresen during the week of October 8th, 2012. Organized by Comics and Sequential Art professor Dr. Ursula Murray Husted, students participated in critiques and professional discussions led by Ms. Dresen as well as more informal conversation about the meaning of life, the reasons for art, and the process of telling stories with very small lines on paper.

The week was capped by a well-attended public lecture where Ms. Dresen shared insights into her working methods, her philosophy of comic making, and answered questions. After the lecture, the audience converged on the student gallery where the first Comics show was hanging.  Students, their families, faculty, and visitors to campus took in the student work, noshed on snacks, and congratulated the student artists.

Student volunteers manned the autograph table while Ms. Dresen signed books and shared warm words with aspiring student cartoonists.

Both visiting artist and students came away inspired with a renewed enthusiasm and appreciation for making comics.
